Lucy describes it as Marliyn on acid, and while we're quite certain this isn't the case, we're totally smitten with the new supercharged Marilyn we're seeing this season. You won't find any Marilyn Moore quite like it in your wardrobe already. The beautifully tasteful and sensible classics are shouting far louder than ever before, but in a really good way.
One chintzy floral print takes centre stage, cut perfectly into knee covering Norna, sixties shift Nixie and all time favourite Miki. Take your pick between garishly good orange and pink, and far from subtle yellow and green. Then go clash it all up with the most divine textured lime green cashmere, a silver lurex bolero or a bonkers pink floral frock coat.
Audrey devotees won't be dissapointed with Samantha Sung's SS13 instalment. Four new summery prints to chose from plus more temptation than ever to stray and find a new wardrobe soulmate. New styles include the pure cotton full skirted Stella, like Audrey minus the sleeves; the super flattering fitted Gisel dress; and the brilliant stitched pleat skirt Zelda. All hot contenders to be Audrey's successor.
Introducing Brooklyn We Go Hard. A French label founded in 2010 by super cool duo David Obadia and Nelson Hassan, self styled 'les plus New Yorkais des Parisiens'. They talk of 'exploring the urban culture of the world' through their collections and in SS13 we think they started out in France and ended up in South America with a stopover in Africa. We've got interesting textured shirts, embroidered tabs on the t-shirting and a lightweight tapered pant with a woven waistband. Might sound exotic but we promise you it's most wearable.
Summer down in menswear is all pared down and washed out. With the exception of Anderson that is. Our favourite woven belt is back in some great new colourways alongside a new triple striped heavy canvas number. The perfect flash of colour and detail when paired with summer chinos and shirts.
This so-called spring has had us clamouring for cosy cashmere. So out come our trusty Cash Ca basics. The favourite two pocket cardi and crew neck jumper return in black, grey, navy and cream, as well as a lovely lime and chalky blue. Indispensible at any time of year.
Chinti & Parker keep us happy this season with just the right amount of stuff we know and love, and a bit of new and exciting to fall in love with. Classic Chinti returns with the striped and spotted jersey basics we can't do without - Ts, vests, tunics and trousers for beach chic and ultra comfort combined. Then there's a smart and sensible turn with a lovely cotton tea dress in a subdued cross hatch print. And finally a fun streak with some super cute loveheart shirting. Has our hearts won again.
This is the label to turn to inbetween the seasons. Practical enough to fend off a stiff breeze, subdued enough to not appear ahead of the weather, lightweight enough to acknoweldge the beginnings of a seasonal shift.
All chalky grey, white and navy, we're loving their simple chinos, super soft t-shirts and outsize shirting. The swingy silk skirt looks equally as great with or without tights, while their signature outerwear is what makes wearing your spring wardrobe possible!
It's all washed out from Woolrich this seaon. Just the way we like summer to be. Washed chinos in three colours. Shirting in super soft Japanese Banshu-oi fabrics, the stuff from which kimonos are usually made. And on into jersey with sweats and T's all subdued and faded. Outerwear remains a highlight with the lightweight mountain parka the perfect British summer accompniment, and the water and windproof shield suiting a more technical requirement.
We're taking a road trip into the sun-drenched midwest with Levi's Made & Crafted this season. The boys and the girls are both on board, and we long to look like them, effortlessly cool in their beatifully crafted threads.
Colour, texture and pattern is the order of their free-wheeling days. As long as it's a touch sun bleached, saturated, washed and worn. Striped maxis, tie dye vests, candy pink denim, floaty silk shirts and washed cotton chinos for the girls. And the guys are sporting heavy patterned tees and colourful button downs with their faded denim. Standing side by side, hitching a ride, we have to say they look the picture of a perfect summer's day.
Beck Sondergaard has this season's accessories all taken care of once again. Scarves, soft and hazy in fine woven wool and silk. Flashes of neon stars and such craziness wafting their way over floaty cotton. Leather bags and purses, soft as can be in lemony pastel. Heavy canvas totes for heading straight to the beach.
