Great to see our new menswear department getting a well deserved mention in our favourite mens glossy. Thank you Esquire for your lovely words - has made us all warm and happy on this very wintry day!
The Christmas countdown starts here at The Hambledon. Our festive pop-up shop is now open and brimming with baubles, bows, cards, crackers, and a bumper selection of stocking fillers. If you're yet to find that Christmas spirit, this corner of the shop has it in santa size sack load.
Our freshly painted and decorated pop-up shop has taken on a distinctly dated feel just now - but in nothing but a good way. Yes open for two weeks only we're hosting a special vintage pop-up in collaboration with Old Albion - the company responsible for sourcing and supplying us with interesting finds from days gone by. You may have spotted the odd piece around the store recently and now we have a whole corner dedicated to curious trinkets and treasures.
We're suckers for a bit of tradition so when we walked into D.R Harris's original apothecary on St. James Street we were seduced by this super old-school British brand. As one of London's oldest pharmacies it's been there since 1790 and has reams of impressive history serving the city gentry and Court of St. James.
Hanging on the wall is the 1938 Royal Warrant appointing D.R. Harris as Chemists to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Today they are appointed Chemists to H.R.H the Prince of Wales.
Renowned for the quality of their products, this family-owned company has remained eternally faithful to its roots. The majority of their products are still produced by traditional methods, being hand-made and packed on the premises.
We couldn't resist bringing the classic gentlemen's Arlington range to our bath and beauty department. We have the cologne, shaving cream, shower gel, deodorant and our favourite - the oh so practical soap-on-a-rope.
One of our season highlights is here - the arrival of the fabulous Just in Case collection, which this time takes the name of the song Aint No Cure for Love by Leonard Cohen. Apt perhaps because once again we've fallen for the label's mature and elegant flamboyance.
The gorgeous skirts are as full as ever - our absolute favourite being the Cita tulle ballerina style number. The beautiful quality fabrics are back - draped silks, thick velvets and heavy satins. The signature prints are all abstract watercolours, photographic and floral, and the knitwear super-deluxe, featuring the Alba ruffle and Elba sparkly lurex. All of this comes in a palette of beautiful subdued shades with highlights of citrine mustard and bottle green among the blacks, warm browns and soft pinks.
Here we are unpacking our great new range of retro glassware. It's all American diner style with that characteristically thick bevelled glass. We're all going a bit gooey and nostalgic over the milk jugs, desert dishes, ice-cream sundae and milkshake glasses. Make ours a vanilla with a cherry on top please!
Womenswear is looking especially lovely at the moment thanks to Laura, our VM. Themed on the distinctive style of Charleston farmhouse and the Bloomsbury Group, we have a corner of the upper floor adorned with faded photographs, scores of music, dogeared books and other memorabilia harking back to the bohemian paradise that was Charleston. Altogether a very fitting backdrop to our new autumn winter collections due to be released over the coming weeks.
More exciting times here at The Hambledon. Our super talented new visual merchandiser Laura has just unveiled her first installation and it really is rather special. Head to our new men's denim pop-up shop and you'll find a wall of brightly coloured placards advocating our superb men's denim ranges - Edwin, A.P.C and Nudie - and other such words of wisdom. Inspired by the 1968 french students revolt, the message is fight for fit, fly your fly and sois jeune et tais toi, be young and shut up!
It was all change yesterday as the "main run" - the big wall of shelves on the ground floor - got an all new colourful look. We had a nice big delivery from Rice which we just had to show off to full effect. Lindsey whipped round and worked her magic, and hey presto, we have shelves full of fabulous new homewares.
