Phewfs, what a week! Lots of lovely visitors and among them were Karina and Kam from team Beck Sondergaard, who flew in from Copenhagen to work their magic on a special Christmas installation up in womenswear. Expect an accessories eye-full and plenty of Beck Sondergaard quirk; scarves in every conceivable print and colour, all our favourite bags and purses in new colourways, twinkly tear drops, fluoro birds and crazy artwork.
Running until Christmas Eve and currently showcasing their Christmas and Movember collections, the installation will evolve to include a line of Hambledon exclusives, as well as pre SS14. We challenge you not to find something for the Christmas list here, especially with the added lure of giveaway fabric totes, glitter gift envelopes and Danish liquorice!
London footwear brand Hudson launches its first ever shop within a shop in September. And it's here. At The Hambledon. Doors open on Saturday 31st August.
Autumn 13 is the season of the ankle boot and Hudson have every angle covered. Watch out for Plath (contemporary with lizard detailing), Stanford (ultimate preppy penny loafer), Mirar (modern and easy), Horrigan (coveted by star Millie Mackintosh for its bohemian charm), Riley (a little bit urban cowboy) and Sefton (elegant covered wedge).
Hudson has been putting its best foot forward (and other terrible shoe puns) for more than two decades and we are delighted to welcome them, and their loveable supremo Uncle Les, to The Hambledon. There'll be more from Uncle Les next week as he opines on shoes for our news pages.
The Hambledon/Hudson Project runs from 31 August - 29 September. Extended until Sunday 13th October.
The sun might not shine, but what do we care. This summer is going to be so much fun. Fun like the summers of your childhood. Water pistols, sheriff badges, sparking spinners, gumball machines, polce whistles, sherbet bottles, chattering teeth and paper lazers; our project corner is dedicated to all things sweet and silly. Time to raid the piggy bank...
We have gone paper decoration mad here. It's a paper explosion in the project space. Check out bunting, fans, garlands, honeycomb balls and ice cream cornets. Hell yes, every party should have an ice cream cornet. It's time to celebrate.
We're taking a road trip into the sun-drenched midwest with Levi's Made & Crafted this season. The boys and the girls are both on board, and we long to look like them, effortlessly cool in their beatifully crafted threads.
Colour, texture and pattern is the order of their free-wheeling days. As long as it's a touch sun bleached, saturated, washed and worn. Striped maxis, tie dye vests, candy pink denim, floaty silk shirts and washed cotton chinos for the girls. And the guys are sporting heavy patterned tees and colourful button downs with their faded denim. Standing side by side, hitching a ride, we have to say they look the picture of a perfect summer's day.
It was all hammers, scissors, allen keys and helpful amounts of Fruitellas as we put together our BeckSondergaard project this week. Huge thanks due to Kam and Karina, who flew all the way from Denmark with their bag of hooks and washi tape and gave the space a little flavour of Copenhagen with special bunting and mid-century furniture. Hambledon Projects is now awash with beautiful, beautiful scarves and bags, including our first ever world exclusive, available only from us. I know! We're a bit gobsmacked.
As many of you well know, our Rob is a shoes man. So when he started working at The Hambledon, it wasn't long before we were stocking Tricker's, the shoemaker responsible for the very finest shoes a man can buy in the land. Three years and many a happy Tricker-clad customer later, the time had come to get serious.
So, back in Spring, Rob and Rich took a trip to the company's historic Northampton factory to commit some exclusive Hambledon designs to leather in our first ever footwear collaboration, a matter of huge excitement not least for Rob, who as you can imagine was in seventh heaven.
The result is two unique takes on tried and tested styles. The Superboot is an adaption of the classic Burford style in a rich chestnut Nastor calf leather. They kept the welt and midsole in natural leather and soled the boot in a durable Dainite rubber unit. The boot is finished with brass eyelets and the choice of two sets of laces.
Next up is the Supershoe, based on the classic Woodstock. For this, Rob and Rich chose a burnished coffee calf which is at its best when polished black, giving a fantastic finish over time. They stuck with the original by going for a double leather sole but made it a natural shade to give a rich contrast with the upper. As with the boot, the shoe comes with the choice of two sets of laces plus the all important tin of black polish. And let's not forget our favourite bit, The Hambledon stamped smartly in gold on the leather lining.
Just a few of the snaps from our fantastic Lomography workshops which saw our camera enthusiasts hit the streets of Winchester with all the gear and plenty of ideas from Lomography's lovely Mark, Dan and Fay. There was rain and sun and from what we gather, a lot of fun. They even manged to capture Winchester's premier tourist attraction in all its ancient glory. Magnificent work people, big thanks to all who got involved.
Check out our project space, all styled up to resemble the Lomography Paris concept store – a bit like a junkyard, with walls plastered in cool photos and shelves lined with a substantial cherry-pick of their entire range of cameras and accessories.
Over the course of the next month we’ll be running Lomography ‘lend weekends’ where, for just £5, you can take away the Lomo of your choice for the weekend with a free film to shoot as you please. Then on Saturday 18th and 25th August at 1.30pm a member of the Lomo team will host a special workshop, taking you into town with your loaned Lomo to dispense all their Lomo know-how and help you take some lovely snaps. It’s just £10 and spaces are limited so please be sure to book by calling 01962 890055.
